Description
This high-performance black grease is formulated with Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS₂) to provide outstanding lubrication and wear protection for metal gears, levers, shafts, cams, and sliding mechanisms found in vintage audio equipment.
The MoS₂ additive creates a durable lubricating film that continues protecting metal surfaces even under high pressure and repeated movement, helping to reduce friction, wear, noise, and sticking.
Difficulty
Moderate to advanced · typically 30–90 min for a first-timer with basic tools.
Tools needed
Screwdrivers, tweezers, light synthetic grease, phone camera for reference photos
Common mistakes to avoid
- Ignoring timing marks — many mode/cam gears must be installed in one exact position. Photograph the old gear's alignment before removal.
- Over-greasing — a thin film of plastic-safe grease on the teeth is enough; excess migrates onto belts and rollers.
- Forcing the mechanism by hand against the gear train — rotate only in the intended direction, gently.
If the mechanism was jammed when the gear cracked, cycle it slowly by turning the motor pulley by hand after installation, before applying power. You'll feel any misalignment before it breaks something.
